Forum Rules...Please Read

  • Some of the links on this forum allow SMF, at no cost to you, to earn a small commission when you click through and make a purchase. Let me know if you have any questions about this.
SMF is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission.
Since you are a Premier member you can put a link to your blog in your signature.
The problem we are having is folks posting links to other things that are not related to SMF, and can be malicious malware. We try to catch them before they are put on the main feed, but this is a full time job, I’m not on here alll the time, so that is why there is so many Admins & mods looking at the posts 24 hours a day to try and catch all the spam & malware. Believe me this is not an easy job, and by the way we do it for all of us for no compensation. We are volunteers.

Al - I appreciate all the things that you and the others do... and we certainly do not make it easy on any of you.
Having been a volunteer firefighter for the last 19 years I totally understand the underappreciation! HAHA

I like the periodic review of the rules. I think they are necessary and useful to keep this site what it is.

thank you to all the Admins who keep it running right.

We sometimes get lax with enforcing the no link rule and for that matter a few other rules as well. Of course when we do get lax on links it usually gets out of hand and there are a lot of links being posted.
As was said if you are a Premier Member you can have a link in your signature line. The only other time links are alright to post is to answer someone's question about something. If you want to tell somebody about a great deal on something lets say on Amazon then you could certainly post something like "Hey Amazon has a great deal on xyz check it out" or something like that give all the info just not a link.
Links to our sponsors are allowed and I'm sure appreciated by them. They pay to advertise here and so the rules are different for them. It also isn't fair to them to allow others to post links to advertise something.
If you have any questions or anything feel free to PM me I usually check the site several times a day and will try to answer as soon as I can.

Most browsers, if you just "hover" your mouse over a link, will spell out at the bottom of the screen what the actual URL is. It's quick and easy to do and can save a lot of headache from malicious websites because such websites won't have the URL that the intended business or org would and if you look at it carefully you'll see it's not walmart.com or amazon.com or whatever.

Secondly I confess I frequently include links in my posts, but they should be considered more as examples of potentially useful products than endorsements. I certainly hope that all will be careful consumers and consider alternatives.

Thanks to all Admins and Mods who keep this going. We owe you a lot!
