Looks good. You should try cutting it against the grain next time though. The grain also switches direction about half way but only at a slight angle. I find if you just usually cut it long ways your usually close enough.
Thanks for the tip. I didn't realize it oriented that way and switched due to two muscles. Next time!

That cut is against the grain, you are right about the grain changing directions though it changes right in the elbow of the roast.
 
Looks awesome!!! I love tri-tip. My company is located in Michigan and I'm in California and every time I bring up tri-tip my coworkers look at me like deer in the headlights, not sure why tri-tip isn't found everywhere.

Ok...am I seeing it wrong somehow? Look at the 2nd pic with the knife in it. The grain runs from the top of the pic to the bottom. Well just off from that. It actually runs from top/little left to bottom/little right and he cut it straight from the top of the pic to the bottom. The cut is not exactly with the grain but its very close and certainly not even close to against it. Not that it matters to much, I was just pointing it out if he wants to cut against it next time.
