First time using Masterbuilt 20070910 30-Inch and the plastic on the control panel is rising off

I live in Las Vegas and it was a high of 101 degrees today and this was in the direct sun for the first 2-3 hours, is this why the plastic is rising up? Has anyone had this problem before?

I'm not near my Smokers right now, but it wouldn't be a Clear Protective sheet they have on it?
If it is, just peel it off.

was the wind blowing? could the control module been down wind from the exhaust port? that combined with the direct sunlight could have made the module very warm Just guessing.

I think you answered your own question. It was probably caused by the heat and being in direct sunlight. Maybe it wasn't installed at the factory correctly.

Worked fine yes but aren't these designed to be outside in the sun? It was hot but not that hot.

That is good that it still works. You would think that it could handle direct sunlight for a couple of hours. But you must consider that something sitting in direct sunlight is going to absorb solar radiation and heat up even when the air temp doesn't seem very hot.

If you ask MB to send a new membrane switch cover they'll probably just send out a new controller. If it's not in the manual to keep shaded then they should send out a replacement. Just have your serial/model #'s handy. The MB FB page is great Go to their page and send them that pic and #'s and they'll take care of you.

dr k gave you some excellent advice. I think I found the manual for you model. The only thing I read in the manual was that direct sunlight may cause the display panel to be difficult to read and therefore to shade it. I found nothing in manual about keeping the panel/smoker out of direct sunlight. The bubbled up membrane could be due to a bad production lot. Who knows? Bottom line, don't beat yourself up over it since you did nothing wrong. Give Masterbuilt a call and they'll take care of you.

P.S. I lived in Phoenix for 30 years. It's true you can fry an egg on the sidewalk during summer.

I'd stay alert for awhile, because I seriously doubt if it was the Sun, without any other type of heat adding to the problem.
