decided not to leave anything in between the doors will just overlap the flat strap from one door to the other in case we decide to cook a whole pig

The doors don't seem to be that heavy we had talked about putting on counterweights originally but it doesn't really seem necessary I seem them on almost all smokers. Are the doors usually really heavy or is it just to make them very easy to lift

"Heavy" is relative. In fact you might have some relatives who think they are heavier than you do.

Counterweights make them easier to lift, but they can also serve another purpose.

A properly designed counterweight and door stop will hold the door up when opened.

got the rf plate all cut and fitted with good slope for the drain in the center

I got the rf plate all welded in and racks built and in place everything but the center guides for the top racks

I have a question I have a piece of galvanized 6 inch pipe I want to use for the smoke stack will it be OK to use since the cc should never get over 300 degrees

Yep.... If it does get hot, be sure you are "upwind" or you may get a dose of "galvanized poisoning".... not a good thing.....

You could burn the pipe out first... or have it sand blasted... The inside...

The greatest risk is from fumes released during the welding.

You can use muriatic acid to remove the galvanizing from the weld area prior to welding.

What materials do you use to build the rack?  If I had to guess, it looks like you built the outside square, then put the support down the center then (painstakingly) put every cross bar.  Is that about right?

to it is a 1 inch square tube for the frame and it is drilled 3/4" on center and then we put in 5/16 rod and finished welding the frame

for the top racks we made the center guide removable there are 2 studs welded to the top of the tank if you remove 2 nuts the guide comes out so it will hold a hole pig

I drove past the BIG propane dealer the other day......

His yard is FULL of propane tanks that have gone through the fires here.... I'd bet they are cheap.... burned and all..... smoke covered.... paint blisters....

Omak Dave you wouldn't happen to know the name of that place do you? Been looking for one locally and can't find them.
