Aaron, morning...  The pellets are getting too hot above the element....  What temp was the smoker ???  On that smoker, I'm not sure if there is an air inlet at the bottom and an exhaust opening at the top....

I think your smoker might need a modification or two....   The "mailbox" mod gives about 10 hours of smoke....  I'm not saying these mods are for your smoker, just what some folks have done.... Check MES analog smoke mods.....  I think some folks drilled holes in the bottom of the smoker and put a metal box under it for the AMNPS, and drilled holes high up on the sides for exhaust ports....  Just so you know, very few manufactures build a smoker that works well from the factory....  You are not alone in this quest for great smoked foods.....   Dave

Thanks for the advice Dave. I had the smoker set at 225. Although it is analog, I had it dialed in with a digital temp probe.

There is no air inlet on the bottom, and only a small exhaust on top. I read a tip from another analog owner that leaving the door cracked open slightly helps.

I'm going to take a look at those links. I'm not opposed to mods, but I was just hoping the AMNPS would make it a set it and forget it smoker.
