First smoker build, volume calculation question

I just mounted a 250g propane tank on an old trailer and am trying to finalize my chamber sizes. I could not find a direct answer to my questions so I thought I would ask...

Is the cooking chamber the volume above the reverse flow plate only, or the entire chamber (above and below the reverse flow plate)?
