Just joined the forum. I will attempt my first smoke on Father's Day with my master forge cylinder smoker. Any suggestions on what to cook? All ideas are appreciated.

Do come chickens....or a boston butt for pulled pork.  Chickens are not that expensive...but you can really get your smoker seasoned well with the pork.  My 2 cents!

Hi Smokey!

I like Kat's suggestion...pork butt or chicken are both good choices for a first smoke.  A pork butt is really pretty easy, although it is a long smoke; its pretty forgiving and hard to mess it up.

Good luck!  Let us know how it goes...

Pork and Chicken is a really easy and inexpensive way to learn the smoker. Also pork will season it with rich flavour. I found beer can chickens to very easy, full of flavour and they dont take long at all. On average its taken me about 2hrs15 min at approx. 220 degrees.

If you do the beer can chickens, make sure to remove the wishbone and plug the top entrance of the chicken with an onion or garlic head cut to size. Don't forget to brine!
