Hey everyone! I'll be doing my first ever smoke this Saturday. Using a Pit Barrel Cooker.

Any general advice on what to cook first? I'm thinking chicken... but also would like to do some form of beef... what's the easiest?

Spatchcocked  chicken would be my vote. For beef, you can get a nice thick chuck roast, season well with kosher salt and black pepper, place in a foil pan and smoke it up for some pulled beef sandwiches.

I`m no experienced meat smoker but chicken gets my vote.

My vote would be a meatloaf. Easy to do and not very time consuming.

Top round gets my vote.

Hard to mess up. Fairly quick cook.

Can be sliced for french dippers, cut into steaks, chopped for stew, freezes and keeps well.

Shaved for cold or hot roast beef sandwiches.

Sorry for all the pics, I just get excited when talking BEEF!

Why not throw a chuck steak in with your chicken? They are on the cheap end for beef and are around 3-4 lbs each. There are plenty of recipes for this but essentially keep the seasoning simple with salt, pepper, garlic and chili powder smoke to about 200 IT.
