First thing...I am learning that smoking meats is just as addicting as smoking cigarettes!!!!

So I tried my first pork shoulder today. Set up the rub last night and kept it in the fridge. Started it at 7am and brought it out to rest at 5pm. Spritzed it a few times with a apple juice, rub and whiskey mix. All I can say is WOW!!! Tender, moist and a great bark! Had family over and they are not big BBQ fans, but they ate amost all of it and said it was the best they ever had! Wife said we are't going to any BBQ joins anymore now that I have that smoker!

Thanks for all the info I got off this site, dont think I would have had a chance without this forum...you guys are AWESOME!!!

Right on! Sounds (and looks) like you nailed it. Congratulations on a successful first of many shoulders.

Awesome!

Same boat as you have done a pork butt, and did a ham last nite for my first 2 smokes with my new WSM.

Ham turned out about perfect.

Whoever coined the phrase "low and slow" hit the nail on the head...

Congrats on your first shoulder! It looks like you nailed it!

I smoked my first shoulder yesterday on my new MES. It didn't turn out as perfect as yours (internal temp to 160 degrees) but after eleven hours I was ready to eat!! Neighbors came over, loved it, and now they are getting a smoker! Cool Beans! I love my new hobby!  @Danzguy

Great job! Looks like it'll melt in your mouth.

It is truly magic when the meat literally falls apart. You are correct that this forum is responsible for some awesome smoking. You can learn so much from others' experience.

My Sons, 26-24, always brag, "...look at the smoke ring!" then go on to educate others that don't know what it is.

Keep up the good work.

Looks excellent!  I can almost smell the goodness.

I can attest to the addiction aspect and I am suffering acute withdrawal at the moment!  Looked fantastic!!  Keep on smokin'....!!  ~~ Thrifty

Well done!! And you are correct about getting addicted, I started off simply doing ribs and such for the fam and now I am getting into competions and cooking for groups.

Congrats on a great looking smoke - now you are hooked
