my first one on the grill was a flop,    put the pizza on a round pizza pan with all the holes in it,  got the grill up to temp and put the pizza on it went inside just for a min and when i went back out the the smoke was a rolling,   burnt the whole bottom of it

I used a thin cheep pizza stone on my first attempt.  The pizza bottom burnt to a crisp.  I have a couple of thick pizza stones now and they work much better.

Your post and pictures are quite interesting to me. My family and I make what we call campfire pizza over the campfire.

I have a grill that suspends out over the campfire, and a steam table rectangle pan we use for the cover.

We use English Muffins cut open to have 2 round pieces, then spread pizza sauce on the muffin, add our favorite toppings, sprinkle grated cheese of choice on top.

Then we place the loaded muffin on the grill, put the lid over them, this gives us an oven effect over the fire and cook our campfire pizza's to perfection.

Takes a little practice to get it right, but sure makes for a campout delite / treat.

I wish I had some pictures to post, sorry none available right now.

Hello again, was just going through some of my pictures and came accross a couple of pictures showing our campfire pizza that I replied telling about.

Here are the muffins and toppings of our campfire pizza being checked for doneness

This is just my swing away campfire cooking grill that I divised for this very purpose.

Haven't made pizza from scratch for years?

Then only because I spent a time?  Is it called between jobs now?  Hell, I couldn't find work anywhere?  I was ever over-qualified or under-qualified.  Many can now figger out that drill?

Now, having learned those lessons?  We don't pay $30 for pizza to be delivered?

We go to the take and bake place.  $10 will feed three?

We always order it made on parchment paper.

That way we can do it on the grill or in the oven.  Bottom still gets crispy.

Now, the $10 pizza?  It is a luxury because we can afford to buy it without making it ourself!

Those memories of the hard times?  They make it impossible for us to spend the $30.  And then have to tip the deserving driver.

Good luck and good smoking.
