Something else I noticed from my last ABTs, I tried doing ABTs by splitting them down the middle and stuffing them that way instead of coring them out and stuffing them. The "boat" type were milder, I'm not sure if it was the pepper itself or how they were prepared.
 
the heat in peppers is primarily in the seeds and the membrane inside the pepper. Splitting them down the side and scooping out the seeds probably removed more of the membrane thus milder ABT's.
