Alright so I was itching to try out the new basket today so fired up the Lang for a test run and a few Brats for supper. I started way early to get s feel for how it was going to run.
I started the fire with about 2/3 of a chimney of lump charcoal. And then added a couple of smallish splits laid side by side , perpendicular to the length the smoker. To my dismay, I couldn't seem to get the smoker up to temp. It just wouldn't burn well that way. I ended up cutting my splits I half and laid them parallel to the length of the smoker, like this....
And finally got a good burn.....
I still need to learn to manage my heat by the size if my coal bed, but I learned a lot and I'm happy with my progress today. And the brats were good!
