  1. This is the start of my firebox.

This is the back side of the firebox

This is as far as I got today.  It is a start.

If anyone sees something that I should pay attention to or got wrong please let me know.   I am no expert and open to change/correction, especially at this stage.

  2. Looks good so far!

    Happy smoken.

  4. The Cord is 17 inches and the radius is 11.75 inches.  Using the circle calculator I figured the opening is 42.7 square inches.   My CC is 23.5 inside diameter and 24 inches long giving me a volume of 10,410 X .004 = 41.64.  Did I figure it correctly?

  5. I plan on positioning the RF plate about 2 inches above the FB to CC opening and leaving a 2 inch gap between it and the end of the CC.

As for chimney location.  I am planning on building a 6" x 6" x 6" plenum and using a 4.5" od smoke stack.  Do yo think that plenum is too large?

I could also use some guidance on how high to place the opening between the grill and the top of the CC.  Do you have any thoughts on that?

HEY !!!!!    perfect....   put it together and smoke some stuff...  I think it looked small because of the trim around the FB door ...

  7. Thanks Dave

  8. Pictures of the progress I have made.  It is starting to look like smoker.

  14. I just have it set there  so I can change it.  At present it is 36 inches above the CC and 3.25 inches inside diameter.

Nice build Malin! Just curious, why you have it hinged on the firebox end so it will tilt?

Looks like the entire cooker can be leveled for uneven ground....

  17. Like Dave mentioned I wanted to be able to level the CC

  18. Very nice workmanship! I really like the idea of those custom made cook chamber door hinges that continue around the door. Looks like a great idea to hold the arc shape of the door from springing.

Dave, I didn't even notice the hinges on the FB end until you pointed it out. I did notice the adjustable jack bolt on the opposite end.

This thing is very well thought out! What diameter is the CC? I would love to find some large diameter pipe laying around to use for these things. If you had to buy it, is it expensive for say a 10 foot length? Looks like 24" or something.

I'm curious to see how the RF plate goes in and whether or not there is a heat deflecting baffle below the RF plate. I am very pleased with how my build came out after receiving really good advice from Dave and Len on this aspect of the build.

I'm thinking on my next one, that I would incorporate some refractory fire brick into the walls of the FB. This would help out with the heat loss on cold days. Insulating the CC is another whole kettle of fish!

Looking forward to seeing more photos as things progress Malin!

  19. I like you adjustment idea    Pretty neat
