Wasn't even gonna post anything about this... but then my dumbass started searching for a post and found this thread that I started. Started with my dog Sadie that was Big Guys mom. Big Guy was my son's dog cuz he wanted to keep a puppy.
Sadly I had to call my son at work Wednesday night so he could come out and help me get Big Guy loaded into truck to bring him to the vet to be put to sleep. Many tears have been shed, even more now. But for a big dog he had a great life of 16 years. In a way it was a blessing... with the episode that he had... he let me know it was time.
Sure did love him and years of great memories !

Ryan

Ryan I am very sorry for this , and sorry I opened this post other then to say , we are very sorry.

This is the hardest thing and the kindest thing we have to do as pet parents.

That's all I will say right now , very sorry for your family Ryan.

Just appreciate the time we had with him. Our youngest is 3 now, we got her when Big Guy first started having issues... so we are thankful for the extended time he was with us. Now it's happy thoughts on how he improved our lives.

improved our lives.
Just finished the whole post , and glad I did it the way I did , because it would have been worse to end with the sad part.

They really are for the betterment of our lives, I miss all my pets from the years, but there are always a couple that really stand out as sad and good memories . We have had cats and dogs, Boxers and Chihuahuas, so big and small. Always a spot in my heart for them all.

Miss my last girl Gabby, ( my avatar ) she was the little boy I always wanted. My son hated it when I said that.

Probably the hardest part was my son going through the loss as it was his dog growing up. But either way, still blessed from him.

Sorry to hear. These pups and criters are certainly a blessing. This was me and my sweet girl, Daisy before we had to put her down. Poor girl couldn't walk anymore. One of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. My 2 young boys went through this one with me. It was rough. We buried her right next to my ole boy Gunner, who passed just a few months prior. Definitely puts a hole in your heart.

As a kid we always had dogs. Loved them all. Went in the Navy kind of put a damper on having a dog until I got on shore duty. Our first dog my wife and I got was a wolf hybrid that was a pure sweet heart. My wife doesn't mind dogs but she's not into them like I am. Anyways, we came home one time and the front room was a mess. We had left one of those huge bundles of toilet paper that would last a family of ten about 7 years before having to buy more. The dog was around 8-10 months old at the time and had attacked and destroyed every single roll. My wonderful wife was convinced the dog did it in spite because we left her alone. I started laughing shortly after walking in after I got of the "shock" of seeing the mess. Yes, that sent my wife over the top. She asked what was so funny and I told her that I wish we had a video camera that recorded the destruction and joy that our pup had while tearing up every single roll. I "think" my wife kind of came around to my reason for laughing so hard.

I miss all of our pets we've lost over the years, but I remember the love they showed us and the joy they brought us over the years. We have one dog now and not sure I want to get another one when it is his time. Reason being, if we get another one I'm not sure we will be around when it is their time. The last thing I want is to try to find a friend or family member that will step up and take care of our pet the way I would.

I'm not against cats, just have no use for them. My little brother preferred cats, so I've been around them. I prefer dogs for many reasons, as every dog I've had over the years was always so happy to see me when I got home. Didn't matter if it was just walking out to get the mail or 6 months plus from getting back from a deployment while I was in the Navy. Getting woke up in the morning with a their tongue in the morning if they that I've slept long enough. So many other reasons.

I have had many dogs over the years but the one that had the best temperament was a German Shepard / Boxer mix named Yana. Damn, just typing this I miss him. I had him for 15 years before I had to put him down due to cancer.

I did not feel bad about it since I knew he was suffering and although it was hard it put him in a better place.

He would entertain people with tossing a balloon back and forth but would also play tug of war with a toy full on if you were strong but knew if you were young or week to take it easy on them.

Here he is letting my 8 YO niece give him a choke hold while never doing anything but being a good boy.

Best dog ever.

Now I have a 7 YO Golden Retriever and a 1 YO Cocker Spaniel. They are the tamest dogs on the planet and share nothing but love to their humans every day.

This is my issue also. We have little Rosie left from our last batch of little girls. She is 14 this summer, 90 % blind and 90 % deaf. She can still get around , and eats well even though she is on soft food , as 3 teeth don't cut it ha ha . Just had her in for a full check up. and other than what I mentioned she is doing really well.

We are very anal over how we treat our pets, almost nothing we would not do for them. My gabby was losing her eye site with cataracts ( for some reason all 3 of our girls went this way around 13 years or so ) I checked into getting them worked on and was told approx. $10,000 and no guaranties it would work or at her age she would make it through the operation. That hurt me to have to say no. And still bothers me today.

So we are in the debate of going for a year or so without a pet after Rosie is gone.
Because at my age it is more then likely they would out live me. And it would always bother me that she or he would not get the love and protection they deserve.

Ryan, you know what we think about our 4-legged, fur covered children around here. It's so sad when that day comes, but for all the love they've given us over the years, it's the right thing to do for them. This meme posted by Ray sawhorseray sawhorseray in one of his jokes posts really has stuck with me...

I love that!
