I'm starting a new uds build and the drums i got have a factory seal (not sure of the material) on the lid. Should this be removed or use it?

Years back before I went to a weber lid, my son has access to brand new unlined drums with removal tops for about 30 bucks.  At that time I removed the factory seal and ran a bead of high temp RTV sealer in the gutter part and let it set for a couple days.  Worked like a charm.  If you were to do that trick, take some plastic wrap and cover the top lip of the drum, then put your RTV in the lid, put on the drum and wiggle very gently for a second or two and let it set for at least 24 hours, then take it off and then let the lid sit out and set for half a day or better again.  The RTV may not set completely in areas that don't have good air exposure.
