my oven broke yesterday. the electronic display shorted out or something so i can't turn it on. My big freezer in the basement with a ton of pork shoulders, ribs, jd sausage logs, and boneless turkey breasts in it just broke. It's currently raining (on the edge of sleeting) in the Northeast and it doesn't look like its going to let up for 4 days. what do i do?!?!?!?!?!

i got everything in coolers with ice for now but it's not gonna stay frozen for long.

Dang, that's about what happen to us 4 years ago, only we had a tornado which killed all the utilities. We did lose about 1/3 of our freezer load of meat.

Have yourself a big bash or something, and get smokin', or else find a replacement freezer ASAP if you can.

Eric

Edit: you could also donate some to your local community services and they can distribute it to the needy.

Hit Craigslist for a quick cheap freezer and don't let it get you down. Do some online searching for the problem your having with your oven. Most issues are fairly common within a particular model line. Maybe something you can repair yourself, appliance are not to complex to troubleshoot once you gather some info. Hang in there man

Pack all your dense items (sausage logs, pork butts) in the same cooler (s) with some ice and DO NOT open them.

Pack turkey breasts and "looser" items in separate coolers over ice and don't open them either.

Place all these coolers outside where it is cold and preferably not sheltered (like your garage) so any freezing temp and wind will help retain cold.

Thin things like ribs and such, have a world-gone-to-hell-cookout with your friends and keep up your spirits. Or, donate it to the local shelter and use the tax write off. Or ask your neighbours if they'd mind you bringing over some meat to cook in their oven and make friends

I'd call an emergency meeting with the wife and seriously look at the finances and decide if this is the push you all needed to finally get new appliances you needed. If not, get some emergency repairman out to your place, but be prepared to pay a premium. So, factor THAT cost into the weighing of getting a new unit versus fixing.

Remember, that at this time of year, there are big bargains to be had in major appliances usually with zero interest for a year, or free delivery, etcetera....just look around and get the best deal you can.

Good luck!

Pack some nice "gift" boxes for the rest of us and ship em on dry ice via overnight FedEx

Are any of the local restraunts or grocery store owners friendly? Maby see if they would let you park them in their cooler for a day till you can get a replacement freezer.

Find you some dry ice about 10-15lbs and place in the freezer, it will help keep your fozen food until you can repair or replace the frieezer... You should have to replace the dry ice every couple days...

Bummer I think I'd check Craigslist and see if I could find a cheap one to get me thru till I could get mine fixed or a good deal on a good used one. Then deal with the stove after the meat is safe from defrosting. Goodluck with whatever you decide

Get somewhere that sells DRY ICE. Pack that freezer as full as you can with it and that'll hopefully save the meat. I'm sorry to hear about all this happening at once to you.

Go ahead and do your part to spur on the economy...go buy a new freezer as soon as possible. Don't mess around with a little fella either, get the Cadillac and all the bells and whistles too.

Wow, that was so easy, it made me feel like a politician spending other people's money like that!

Seriously, if the freezer were young, It could probably be fixed, so I would get some dry ice in there ASAP until then. If it were old, Me and Mrs. Engineer would have a serious discussion about a new one, at a reasonable price, that fit our needs. Don't know where you are located, but if there is a Nebraska Furniture Mart close, they currently have 30 months financing with no interest...I would know, because both the washer (and by default the dryer) and the dishwasher went belly up all at once. You are right about it all happening at once.

You better run out and get you a new freezer soon. Don't you hate it when that happens to you everything going bad at the same time.
