Ever heard of Churrasco (Brazil)?

Hey guys, as I posted in my intro, I'm working in Brazil for a few weeks.

They have a certain kind of BBQ called churrasco. They put cuts of meat on skewers, then cook it rotisserie style. Then they bring it to your table and slice a piece off for you. No seasoning except for rock salt. Delicious. The beef over here is very tender and flavorful.

I have seen them done on almost like a rotisserie where the handle locks into a mechanism that turns the skewer and the tip slide into a slot for support. Then they have burning wood embers and logs they spread into the fire pit area to cook the meat. Looks amazing....

I've been eating this stuff about every day. They make a roast out of the Brahma hump that is about as tender and delicious as you can imagine.

Oh heck yeah!!! One of my favorites!!! As Dave said, the restaurant is called a Churrascaria and one of my favorite ones is Texas de Brasil http://www.texasdebrazil.com/  . The service is always superb and OMG, the salad bar is HUGE with a lot more than just your standard greens and such. The Picanha is the best IMHO. Right there with the bacon wrapped filet mignon. Enjoy it all you can while there. One thing is for sure, you never leave still hungry.

These places are in most major cities today. I enjoy that kind of Brazilian/Argentine cooking a lot.

The first time I came across one was in Cancun in 1990, a place called Jaguari's. The meat was presented tableside on actual swords! Pretty cool, and yes, many places like this are all-you-can-eat. But you might find that you can't eat as much as you thought you could. We usually end up begging the servers not to bring any more.

I'd like to try the American interpretation.

They call the style of serving where they bring it to your table "rodizio." I've eaten at a pizza restaurant here where they bring pizza to your table. As was stated, sometimes you have to chase them away from the table! You can seriously eat too much!

I like the pizza out here better than American pizza, but that's another story.

We've got a Brazilian restaurant here that does that, and according to some Brazillians that my dad had to work with several years ago, it wasn't some cheap imitation, the restaurant actually got it right. I used to go there a lot when I was a gym rat and was eating 4000-5000 calories per day. They hated to see me coming because I'd eat twice as much as everybody else except for my gym rat buddies who would go in with me, then I'd go to the ice cream shop next door. It was where I learned just how good roasted pineapple really is.

Absolutely, the pineapple is to die for. They sprinkle it with cinnamon, then grill it till it's good and sweet.

I've also taken a chance and eaten some chicken hearts. Not bad, actually tastes pretty good but they're a bit chewy.
