Getting ready to get my project going but a friend of mine said not to use a propane tank because of ethyl mercaptain being soaked into the steel . But according to Wikipedia it can be cleaned with bleach it breaks down the composition to be rinsed with water! Any fast responses would be greatly appreciated as I'm looking to pull the trigger and get a tank soon . Thanks Tim

Tim........one of my smoking buddies works for a propane company. He said that if one builds a fire in the CC it will eliminate any build up that might be in the metal..........

Thanks that's what I thought!!!! I am having a hard time finding a used 250 gallon tank even a 500 gallon tank. I did stop at a local fab shop and talked to a few workers there told them what I'm looking for. They took me out to the shop to look at one that an employee is building 48" dia 5 ft long offset fire box but the connector tube to the cooking chamber was a 3" pipe if that I said I'm sorry but I don't think that will work. But the guy building it was at lunch . I gave them a picture of my current smoker and said I want this just bigger.
The new one will be 30" or 36" in dia 72 " long with the same 30"or 36" dia X 24" firebox . It will be a reverse flow smoker. With one door on the front of the cc maybe 2 doors but I'm thinking of making the opposite end of fire box having a big door with a slide out rack that I can slide out to put a whole hog on if I so choose to try a whole hog.
Any input would be helpful thanks

Tim.........my big smoker is a 200 gal ( I think) butane tank. It is 24" dia and about 7' long. Crazy enough, I have never measured the length. I have one door and two removable shelves. Three weeks ago I smoked a 100 lb butterflied whole hog on the bottom shelf and 6 butts on the top shelf along with 10 lb of homemade brat sausages. There was room for more if I wanted. We feed over 275 people for that little "thank you" party.
