Electrician Question

If anyone is or was an electrician...

Our voltage regulator (several 240 circuits) has been alarming and our Ting monitor is showing voltage drops to about 107 volts.

Xcel was just here and its not their supply. Our electrician will be out tomorrow. BUT. Curious what could be wrong? To complicate everything: we have a backup generator and solar system wired in. Breaker box is outside and we have needed to place some breakers that had water corrosion on them. Ive never seen water in the box, but the house has been owned by several folks and one did "creative" things where he shouldnt have.

Any preliminary ideas?

Would need a lot more information. Are you saying it's dropping to 107 vac per leg?

Did you try to shut down one breaker at a time. And see if the volts increased?

its intermittent. sometimes it will happed 6 times in an hour or two, sometimes just one and done.

AI says basically, something is loose and causing resistance. The breaker box has been extensively messed with and is outside. (why they put in outside when he have all the weather here makes no sense to me.

I found a good electrician a while back. He is more of a fix it when breaks guy, I might just ask him to make it right and check every connection. After a couple of the breakers were found to have water damage, I kinda want them all replaced.

My electrician swung by. Found no issues at the box. He thinks the 1970 load balancer is dying. Gonna have him remove that. Hopefully that fixes the issue. The Ting reporting is odd, but there is no visual sign of any problem in the house. the lights dont dim or flicker when it says there is a drop. So I moved the monitor to a different outlet. Gonna see if anything shows up.

Dave you say the main breaker box is outside is it an outdoor box or an indoor box? If an outdoor box it should have either a solid door or a couple doors overlapped to not allow weather in them. An indoor box is not built like an outdoor one. With that being said if it was an indoor box I would expect your electrician to tell you. If not then the electrician is not so good

Its an outdoor box for sure. its unclear how water got in, ive been here 4 years, never seen moisture inside the box. Looked at it recently due to the issues after an all night rain, all dry.
