ECB Questions

I did the mod putting the legs on the outside of my ECB. I drilled holes in the sides and bottom of the fire bowl. My question is how far do you set the fire bowl from the water bowl since the fire bowl clips are gone? Also should i allow for air through bottom of the fire bowl, or set it on a flat siold surface. I still have holes in the side of  the fire bowl.
