Dyna-Q Guru advice

Hey all,
Quick question. I bought the dyna-q control set for my WSM and Akorn. This is probably a dumb question but...do I bring the cooker up to temp and then hook up the guru or hook up the guru right from the start? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I’ve heard it will overshoot if started from scratch. But mixed reports.
i just got an UltraQ, and plan to start the charcoal and get the egg warmed slightly, then add the Q
Going to use a sacrificial whole chicken for maiden voyage.
