DWC Hog casings

Anyone use these ? I searched a bit and found DeWied . Are they the same ? Local Chain Grocer carrys them in the meat section . Packed in salt but not dried . Company based in NY . Just lookin for info . Gonna find out for myself in a day or two .

I've looked up DWC and De Wied and can find nothing....   I'm betting they are a Chinese or some other off shore casing....  Stick with Syracuse, Butcher and Packer and other big suppliers to the commercial market...   stay away from the "Home Pack" casings...  they are shorts, damaged ends of casings that don't make the grade...

I use Sausage maker , but I'm out . Saw these in the store and picked them up . Yes Dave  says packed in China with a NY address on the bag . I should have known , When I asked the butcher about them he said " That's not what we use " .

Will the butcher sell you some of the casings he uses ???  I'll bet he would...   buy some meat from him...    Heck, have him order you a case of butts or something...   If you develop a rapport with him you could get some good deals....   take him a few of the sausage you make to get his opinion...

I should have asked him . This was a Schnucks grocery store . They had beef suet and pork fat in 1 lb pkg. in the meat case . He also carries sausages from some of the well known sausage makers in Missouri . 

Not really sure why he sells something he does not use . Not his choice I guess .

driedstick , how ya doin bud ? The casing worked good for what I was doin .  Dave was right , no uniform size .  The lengths were all about 5 foot , but the mm was up and down . Even over the length one end was narrow . 

After cleaning inside and out and a 2 day soak they were nice and soft . Stuffed up nice , and no tags on the casings . Worked in a pinch for a small batch ,

Hate to burst everyone's bubble, but the largest fresh sausage maker in the US uses chineese casings...

That may well be the case, and I would bet it's true....   I still prefer to support American workers and American products....    It doesn't make much sense to not do that...

I agree 100% about the U.S. product....of course I had no visibility to the COO when I purchased on-line...

I agree...  purchasing on line can be deceiving at best....   Check out Syracuse casing company....   they have an "About us " section that is amazing...
