Is this wild cherry (Indiana), and if so, (here is the dumb part...) is it any different than any other cherry used for smoking meat?

Showed my buddy, he is pretty darn good at this stuff (wood types), I'm not lol.
Said it sure looks like cherry.
I would go out on a limb and say its the same for most part, maybe someone else would know here.
I would chip it and soak it well is all

Looks like wild cherry to me. No different than any other cherry smoking wise. I have a lot of wild cherry splits since they are plentiful around here.
 
Looks like the same cherry I use. Split a piece, it should be red or reddish like this...
