Kroger meat is about all I smoke to be honest. Ours is a "Fred Meyer", but its all Kroger products. Pork ribs, beef ribs, brisket, rib roasts, all cuts of steak, its all Kroger. I usually dont buy tri-tip from them, its expensive at around $6-9/lb. We have a local restaurant supply that has choice tri-tip for $3.65/lb or choice Angus for $4.25/lb. Krogers running a special on their rib roasts right nor for $5.97/lb, will be grabbing a few. Have been grabbing their NY Roasts for $4.77/lb and cutting them into strip steaks and freezing for later. It's usually all quality meat. I did get some T-bones from them a few months back cheap, like $4.99/lb cheap and they are shoe leather.
The one you have to watch for is Costco. Some of them will "Blade Tenderize" their meat, in other words they stab it all over with small blades to soften it up. In doing so they introduce bacteria deep into the roasts and steaks, thus if you like rare meat you could get very sick from their meat. It will say on the label if it is blade tenderized.
