Does smoke wash off?

I thought I was in the Pork section but was in the Marinade section. I started a thread in Marinades.
I had a good smoke going but at the end there was no real smoke flavor!
Alll details are in the link. I don't want to double post, sorry.
Please follow the link and if you can enlighten me with some thoughts I'd be greatful to you.

That's very odd. With hickory you should have gotten a good smoke flavor. I could see if you used a lighter flavored wood. Hope some one can help you out. Maybe next time try apple juice,and spiced rum for your spray and see if that helps.

As was said in the other thread, probably the vinegar. No need to double post as most of the people here browse all the categories looking for new postings.
