I have a CharGriller Pro with Firebox (Smokinâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji] Pro), I donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t consider it a Charcoal smoker since the firebox can take 14†logs. Anyway I only use wood when I smoke with it. I get a bed of coals to get it going but only use charcoal to get it started. One thing that I do a little different, that I am wondering if anyone else does is I have a completely separate firebox that I use to prep my wood. I pre-burn every log to burn off all the toxins from the bark, etc before putting it in my smoker.

Does anyone else do this or am I just some crazy nut?

Why scrap it ???? I've been doing a little preburning with each chimney of lump I light . Seems to work good and helps to keep the temps up better too
