Does anyone think there is a difference between using lump charcoal or briquettes and do most of you prefer chips or bigger chunks for wood? thanks

kind of depends on what type of smoker you are using and what temps you are shooting for.  I dont use charcoal much, but if i remember right, lump burns longer.  With wood I do prefer chunks. with some chips mixed in to start the smoke flowing a little early :)

Actually lump burns hotter, so therefore shorter times than briquettes. I prefer chunks also and only use chips in my gas grill.
