OK. Here's the deal. I bought a Foodsave V3840 last cyber monday. Really good deal. Got it for 90 bucks. Works great. Done a ton of packaging with it in the 6-7 months that I have had it. Only problem has been operator error. I was packaging some juicy stuff and some liquid came out of the bag and into the drip tray. No biggie. That's why they call it a drip tray right? So I took it out and cleaned it. Done it hundreds of times. This time my rotundness got in the way.
How you ask? Well, I put it in the dish rack to dry, but instead of putting it in the rack, I put it on the plastic tray the rack sits on. Right on the edge of the counter. One wrong turn and too large of a back end and BAM! Drip tray falls off and hits the floor! Again, no biggie. Except that when it hit, one of the tabs that hold it in place broke. I figured, "no biggie", and went on about my merry way.
Next time I pulled out my foodsaver to package some bacon, it started acting funny.
It would start a cycle but it wouldn't vacuum. Weird thing was, it wouldn't do it all the time. In fact the majority of the time it worked fine. Probably 1 in 5 wouldn't work. Now I don't know about you, but 1 in 5 is unacceptable for me. So I figured it must be the tray. To the internet I go.
Went to Foodsaver's website and low and behold, its only a three dollar part. SWEET!
Unfortunately, they were sold out. Not so sweet.
So, I sent them an email asking if I could back order it. Didn't say anthing about how the machine was operating, nothign about it not working all the time, just asked if I could get the part when it comes in. Here is what I got in reply:
Dear Matt,
Thank you for contacting FoodSaver, a brand of Jarden Consumer Solutions. We apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced with your V3840 and will be happy to help you.
At this time, the replacement drip tray is not available for your model.
For warranty verification, please respond via email with a code located on the bottom of the unit or engraved on the outside of the metal prongs you plug into the wall to give the unit power. The metal prongs are located on the end of the power cord. This code should begin with one letter, followed by three numbers.(A, 1, 2, 3)
Again, I apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your business and are happy to help if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
Deborah

OK, I don't know about you guys, but I assumed that the metal prongs that you plug into the wall the give it power ARE ON THE END OF THE POWER CORD!!
Anyway, after reading this, I was bummed. Didn't understand why they needed my code to verify my warranty. I never asked for anything to be replaced. So I kind of forgot about it. A week later, I remembered the email and figured, hey, what the hell! The wife was out of town, the kids were in bed, and for once I wasn't smoking anything, lets look for the code and send it in. So that's what I did this past Tuesday evening. Didn't expect anything back from them. This is what I got today:

Needless to say, I was completely floored! A $180 replacement machine, for a $3 part?! Especially since the one I have still pretty much works! So here I am dazed and confused, but greatly happy with my ignorance and look what comes in the mail:
OH, HAPPY DAY! OH, HAPPY DAY!
I now have to leave you as I am off to buy lottery tickets!!
Thanks for reading! And remember, the moral of this story is never look a warranty in the mouth!
