My wife has a knack of making meals using what we have at the house, she has been doing it since we got married 35 years ago. A while back she made something and I said that was damn good and asked what she called it. She didn't have a name for it so I deemed Damn Good #1. Neither of us can remember what she made, though.

So, now when she comes up with something I randomly assign it a number. This is where #187 comes from. She had gone to the store to get the usual fixing to make a stew the other day. She wanted me to get a deer roast out of the freezer so she could soak it in water in the fridge for a couple of days. I forgot to and she forgot to tell me again. She had the veggies simmer in a pot on the stove and I asked where was the meat? She blamed me for some reason for not getting the meat out of the freezer so she was going to make a chicken stew. That kinda didn't sit well with me but I wasn't about to say anything. She cut up the chicken and browned them in bacon grease, made up some chicken stock and added to the veggies, along with some corn starch to thicken thing up. Let that simmer for a while and added the mushrooms.

When it was done I lied a bit about not being hungry yet, with the truth being I wanted her to taste it as chicken stew just did not sound right to me. She ate her share and I asked if it was good. Of course she said yes and offered me a taste. She was right, it was damn good! I got me a bowl full and tore into it, and somewhere between the spoon and my mouth I realized what it reminded of. Chicken and dumplings minus the dumplings, and a chicken pot pie minus the crust. I've never like either one of them because I despise soggy crust, dough or bread.

She has added a few of her Damn Good recipes in a homemade cook book to pass on to the kids and grandkids, and I told her this is definitely one to add to the book! Sorry, no pics as who takes pics of making chicken stew?

Along with that damn good #187, we have preplanned meals as well. When my wife asks what I want and I say I don't know or I don't care... they each have a preplanned meal. One is taco pie, and the other is chicken rice a roni casserole.

Wife and I have to plan meals to eat together. For most of our married life we have different hunger patterns and work schedules. When the children were around they were ready for supper before I got home from work.

I have never understood why my wife cannot go to the freezer herself. Today she wanted butter (baking on Sunday) and asked me to pull 2 packages. Yes, it is a chest freezer, but the butter is on top. I also keep the chicken on top for a quick pull

Wife and I do this often with leftovers or what ever is in the fridge. I keep saying we should write these things down. According to her that take the fun out of it.

I'll write it down so when she asks what I want to eat I've got a list! We had biscuits and gravy last night for supper... two thumbs up!

My wife makes what we call "salmon bowls".
Its rice, edemame, sliced avocado, a chili sauce a Japanese mayo and of course salmon. The first time she made it... she cooked the salmon in the airfyer. I was very skeptical before the meal. Especially thinking of fish being cooked in the airfyer. But it turned out absolutely fantastic. It is now one of our favorite meals. Even my 2 boys, ages 8 & 10 love it. We even swap out Salmon for shrimp, now and then. Turns out to be a good meal during Lent too.
We've been insanely busy, but ill see if I can get a good write up for a recipe and share it.
P.S. ...My wife doesn't know where the freezer is either. 😂
