I just checked out their webpage. It looks like some nice cutlery.

I stopped by a cook's store in town today that I had somehow missed previously. I found it when searching for vendors of some of the brands of knives I was researching. Low and behold, they actually have the Forschners in stock. They said they were they had only recently become Forschner dealers and had decided to carry them after seeing all of the good reviews in the various industry magazines. I bought a 7" Santoku and a set of paring knives that they had on sale along with a few blade safes.

I should be covered as far as chef's knives go now although I do want something from Wusthof to satisfy the gear junky in me.

A good set of steak knives would be nice too.

Just don't get the serrated edge ones.. UGH!

Rich, I don't know which brand you're speaking to when you mention serrated.

For me, My serrated Henkels are outstanding. I have both the Pro-S series as well as the Eversharp line. I'm not familiar with the Forschner brand.

I'm kind of knife junkie. I've even got the Kyocera ceramic previously mentioned. As a matter of fact, it's the first knife I always grab. It will fall through a tomato as well as an onion. It's a wonderful blade!

As always, you get what you pay for. If you're in a position to spend some money on a blade, do so. You will never regret it!

Ok- an exception. Ihave two of them. A bread slicer and a steak. good blades. I mean the cheap stuff - basically a hacksaw blade with a sometimes wood handle.

I used the Forschner Santoku tonight to chop up some taters for home fires, and I was very pleased with the performance of the knife.

If you want a good knife cheap get some of the old hickory brand. Rust like the devil if you don't take care of them, don't hold the edge nearly as long as others, but really quick and easy to sharpen. I have almost a full set now and never paid more than $2 for any of them at flea markets etc. I think agri-supply locally here carries them for a few $ a piece.
