That sausage I messed up making great Catfish Bait. Really great day today. They love that stuff. Then went to take fish basket out and the cover fell in and lost my fish. Got a hold of a nice one that was pulling drag and it got wrapped around something and could not break free. I have one sausage left so going to make more just for bait but will use a tougher casing.

Good idea! Up here I swear there is sorta a competition for weirdest catfish baits. Last I heard the hottest was hot dogs chunks dipped in cherry Kool Aid. LOL
Raw chicken breast in strong cherry Koolaid I've seen too. I just use raw shrimp

My youngest and his buddies have been running up to the bay recently for cats. Crick chubs and raw shrimp have been doing well! I gave them shit for wasting shrimp on bottom feeders!

Treble hook . Push the eyelet through the slice / hunk , then tie it . Make some up the night before . I'd put a couple in the sun when you get to the river . Let the fat start to render .
Man I so glad you mentioned using for bait! I have tried shrimp, hotdog in jello and others and never had any luck until this. Got my truck back yesterday. Had them put windshield with Ford logo back in. They only had for a day and all the hail came out. Most the scratches from that rubber stuck in tire came out but the bad ones. I been driving the truck to the water to swim in river to cool off. I think I need to find something to put over seats.

Treble hook .
Treble hooks are sorta taboo here, legal but lots of places do not allow and too hard to remember. We went 3 pole in 2022. I find all the rules interesting but frustrating at the same time.

Yeah, heard chicken breast with KA. Also shrimp.

Old Bay Bridge? Totally agree shrimp for cats?! LOL.

You can catch 2 or 3 cats often on the same piece of shrimp. Bonus if you are night fishing you can fry the bait on the lantern cover for a snack!

I haven't gone fishing for catfish since the late 70s early 80s, but I seem to remember we went at night and used chicken necks. Nice catch Brian.

Bay bridge and railroad bridge! I don't like them doing it because it's dangerous and they don't know the lake/bay and it can get nasty, but you gotta learn I guess!

I'll bite, what does this mean?? I'm perplexed
This should explain it. I saw the telephone method in person back in the late 70s when I was a kid. In the slack water of a small river it worked as advertised.

Brian, that sucks you lost some fish, but just think, you didn't have to clean them. LOL!!!

This is not a joke, please try it and let me know if it works as good for you as it does for me. Take a plain'ol flour tortilla, and tear off or cut aprox 2 1/2'' - 3'' wide by 4 to 6'' long. Fold it in 3rds and stick it on either a single or treble hook. I use single hooks. I know at this point you're thinking I'm yanking your chain, I can assure you that I'm not. Please try it out, you'll surprise how well they stay on the hook. The tortilla turns into a gooie dough ball. I've been using this bait for over 30 yrs, and it out fishes stink baits, nightcrawlers, clams, chicken livers.
Yrs ago I was fishing 20' from this Mexican family, and they were absolutely kicking my but. I had one fish, and they were catching fish after fish, so I asked them what they were using for bait, and sure enough flour tortilla strips. I thought for sure that they were BS'ing me until I saw them baiting their hooks.
I know it sounds stupid, just try it please, the best part about it is you can also eat the bait. Still to this day it's the best bait I have ever used for catfish and trout carp eat it up as well, and they are fun as heck to catch.
Just try it, and let me know how it works for you.
Dan.

It sounds to me like you'd catch more invasive species crossing the rivers then cats with that bait Dan.

It works remarkably well, I'll but it up against any cut or stink bait. It turns into a big gob of dough, which stays on the hook amazingly. Defiantly, try it, it's cheap and normally in the refer when needed.

Let me know how it works for you.
Dan.
