When my Aunt Arlene passed, we had an impromptu wake at the Uncles Ranch.
It was a nice affair. It just grew. Uncle Sirus got me aside, and said for me and Betty to stick around if we could after folks left.
We did. And my Cousin Vic had a good old boil going soon as there was tail lights crossin the creek leavin the ranch. Uncle Sirus handed out beers, A circle formed around a fire, and steam rose from the boilin pot.
Vic boiled up all sorts of Mud Bugs, Oysters, Taters, Corn on the Cob, and Lord knows what. But there wasn't a thing in that pot that wasn't delicious.
And we washed it down with skunky beer from Uncles Swap Meet Beer stash. You never knew what you was gettin till you poured it in your mouth. But after a few, who cared? At least they had pop tops that didn't peal off, or require a church key. God only knows how old they were. They still resembled beer. LOL!
Uncle Sirus is from West Virginia. Vic spent a number of years working in Mississippi.
And now and then, we have what Uncle calls "A Gathering of the Clans". Sometimes around a wedding, or sometimes around a passing.
But no matter what, interesting.
Mud Bugs, Yes Sir, Cajun Lobster. ;)
