Controlling Temperature in Custom BDS

I'm currently working on building my first UDS. I built my charcoal basket but was wondering what you guys have been using for the ash pans mounted to the bottom of them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I think most guy's are using a pizza pan bolted to the feet on the coal basket. I don't have an ash catcher i just dump the drum after 3 or 4 smokes.
