Yep, I want an "A-MAZE-N-PELLET-SMOKER for Christmas.  Feedback on this forum has convinced me of that.

Question though:  Can I use just any BBQ pellets or is this unit locked into A-MAZE-N Pellets?

Has anyone else tried out a different (less expensive) brand of pellet?  What were the results?

Don't want my MES to do a meltdown.

You can use any pellets, just make sure the are not "heating" pellets for heating a house, as they could have nasty stuff in them you don't want on your food.

However, Todd's pellets are 100% the type of wood you order. If you order apple, they are made from 100% apple sawdust.  Other brands might have cheaper filler dust in them and may not be 100% of the wood species you order.

Great Question....

You are not stuck buying pellets from me.

Some pellets contain filler woods like Oak or Alder and others are 100% Flavor Wood

There are even some pellets that are "Enhanced" with flavor oils

The AMNPS is designed to produce smoke and not heat, so 100% Flavor Wood perform best

If you can get your hands on BBQr's Delight Pellets, they are 100% Flavor Wood and burn very well in the AMNPS

What do you call cheaper...BBQers Delight $3.99/lb...Todd's Pellets $2.50/lb...You can get Traeger Pellets for about a dollar a pound but I doubt they are 100% Smoke Wood...JJ

I'm not trying to get any kind of bad feelings going here.

I smoke for a living to supplement social security and it's hard as heck to be selling this stuff while arguing with your peers.

The winter got a bit too cold and I bought the electric smoker, thinking I could use it on the covered porch and get the same results as the weber.  I was wrong in my purchase.  The electric smoker was a disappointment because it did not produce a good smoke.

The AMNPS box seemed a right solution at $50, not a huge expense for the years of use I might get out of it.  Now I'm just looking for pellet fuel in bulk that is less expensive, give a good smoke, and not burn up the dang thing.

Earning some sort of profit is where I'm at and looking forward too.

Thanks for your understanding.

No hard feeling intended or taken...was just curious as to what you were looking for and at what price range to see if I could help your search...JJ

No hard feelings taken. Most everyone here that has a AMAZNPS uses Todds pellets because the are 100% wood and burn very well and very long while smoking...and the price is right..

There are lots of pellets on the market, and you just may find a local supplier who has 100% Flavor Wood Pellets on hand.

You can probably find Traeger pellets in your area, but they are a blend of Oak and Flavor Wood, not 100% Flavor Wood.  Buy a bag, and if you like the smoke these pellets produce, go for it.

There's nothing wrong with smoking with Oak.  It's a very mild smoking wood

Do some research and call around.  You just may find someone close that stocks pellets.

Hey red,

I use cherry pellets from Todd which are 100% cherry which I want. I also found some other brands that I use alone or mixed with Todd's cherry pellets. Just research what you are getting. I know that my "bear mountain" pellets are 75% alder and only 25% of the flavor on the package. For hickory and maple thats ok, for cherry I want 100% and order from Todd.

If you know what you want you can research and make sure it's what you are actually getting. I will say that Todd's cherry is out of this world!!!

I ordered the A-MAZE-N-PELLET-SMOKER and 20 lbs of hickory pellets + 10 lbs of apple pellets tonight.  I'm looking forward to that first smoking.  Thanks or all your assistance.

Please forgive me I am new to this , where is this Todd ? I'd like to do some business with him ! :grilling_smilie:
