A 6 hour marinade of this Lawry's Garlic and Cracked Black Pepper worked out nice.

I took the tri tip out and patted it semi dry, then dusted on the Trader Joe's Coffee and garlic spice. I didn't put the seasoning on heavy.
Smoked at 250 with cherry chunks for 90 minutes to internal temp of roughly 120 and then seared. Finish rest temp 133 was perfect.
Sliced against grain not to thin. Really juicy for a choice cut with hardly any fat.

I get stuff when I visit relatives and when they visit. Freezer full now. Tri tip in Ohio $4.00 lb.

I should say that I didn't sear the meat very long. I didnt want to burn the seasonings.

I have a store by me that we get Tri-Tip from called Harps. Harps is a chain here but not sure if they are in Tennessee. I check in Harps off and on and buy all the Tri-Tip they get. Last time in December it was $7.99 lb. Kinda pricey.

That’s where I get mine too! That and Town and Country!
Your TT looks awesome! Great job on this!

Thanks for looking.

I didn't know about tri tip before last year really. A restaurant used it to make steak subs or sandwiches with different toppings. I asked them where to get it and they got theirs from some packing plant.. Lol

Excellent job on that TT. There so rare around here. I'd almost be to afraid to try one - fearing that I'd be disappointed with the outcome after reading so many great posts on them.

Point for sure
Chris

Man that looks delicious! How’s that coffee rub?
Nice! Thanks.. The rub was not strong but taste was there nice. I used it lightly and got hints if coffee and heat.
I will use it on another beef cut like brisket next. I didn't want to sear it long because I didn't want to burn it. Might do best slow for a few hours.

Dirty fingernail?
