This is a bit weird. Bratwurst is typically considered a sausage but these are not typical in any way. I'd really have a hard time classifying them as a sausage for a variety of reasons, hence posting this in the Beef forum. They look somewhat like sausage but that's where the similarities end.
I know what y'all are thinking right about now though: the boy has completely lost his mind
You may not be far from wrong but this was a REALLY good meal. Had some smoked all beef "bratwurst" left over from a meal a couple nights prior. I wanted to use it up before it went south and came up with this brainstorm. Chili with bratwurst loaded on top of macaroni, topped with a ton of cheese, and cooked in a CI skillet on the grill. This is another one for the folks who are starting into the CI scene and are asking for ideas.
Start out thin slicing a bunch of the beef
Boil the macaroni, drain it, and put into the CI skillets
We were running late and time was short so I just used a can of Wolf Brand no-beans Texas chili. Added the meat to the chili, a little beef broth, and some beef bouillon. Simmer lightly for a bit then add to skillet on top of the macaroni
Pile on copious amounts of cheddar cheese and some onions
Close up
Onto the grill
Cover with the pizza dome
Wow!! Check that out
Dinner is served!!
And here's what's left. Needless to say, this was pretty darned good!!
That was a huge bunch of food but I ate every last bite. This was a unique meal from a few different perspectives. First was the minimal amount of time it took to get it ready. Total time was about 15 minutes, then another 15 minutes or so on the grill. Next was the flavor of the Wolf Brand chili. I was pleasantly surprised it was as good as it was. I'd planned to doctor it up but all I added for flavor was the bouillon. I knew the macaroni would drag down the flavor and that's all it took to amp it up. Next was the overall flavor of the meal. I've done chili mac several times but this was just fantastic. There was no lack of flavor for such simple ingredients. All in all i was very happy with this one and have yet another to go into our regular rotation. Had it not been for the CI aspect I probably would not have posted it. Folks are asking though and this came out looking very nice so figured it was worthy of y'all seeing it. Sad part is that I have several other interesting meals from the past week and a half or so I'd like to post but don't want to get back in the mode of blowing up the forum again.
See y'all again soon,
Robert
