This is a bit weird. Bratwurst is typically considered a sausage but these are not typical in any way. I'd really have a hard time classifying them as a sausage for a variety of reasons, hence posting this in the Beef forum. They look somewhat like sausage but that's where the similarities end.

I know what y'all are thinking right about now though: the boy has completely lost his mind :emoji_laughing: You may not be far from wrong but this was a REALLY good meal. Had some smoked all beef "bratwurst" left over from a meal a couple nights prior. I wanted to use it up before it went south and came up with this brainstorm. Chili with bratwurst loaded on top of macaroni, topped with a ton of cheese, and cooked in a CI skillet on the grill. This is another one for the folks who are starting into the CI scene and are asking for ideas.

Start out thin slicing a bunch of the beef

Boil the macaroni, drain it, and put into the CI skillets

We were running late and time was short so I just used a can of Wolf Brand no-beans Texas chili. Added the meat to the chili, a little beef broth, and some beef bouillon. Simmer lightly for a bit then add to skillet on top of the macaroni

Pile on copious amounts of cheddar cheese and some onions

And here's what's left. Needless to say, this was pretty darned good!!

That was a huge bunch of food but I ate every last bite. This was a unique meal from a few different perspectives. First was the minimal amount of time it took to get it ready. Total time was about 15 minutes, then another 15 minutes or so on the grill. Next was the flavor of the Wolf Brand chili. I was pleasantly surprised it was as good as it was. I'd planned to doctor it up but all I added for flavor was the bouillon. I knew the macaroni would drag down the flavor and that's all it took to amp it up. Next was the overall flavor of the meal. I've done chili mac several times but this was just fantastic. There was no lack of flavor for such simple ingredients. All in all i was very happy with this one and have yet another to go into our regular rotation. Had it not been for the CI aspect I probably would not have posted it. Folks are asking though and this came out looking very nice so figured it was worthy of y'all seeing it. Sad part is that I have several other interesting meals from the past week and a half or so I'd like to post but don't want to get back in the mode of blowing up the forum again.

See y'all again soon,
Robert

Nice looking chilli mac Robert ! I would gave clean my plate as well! (Or pan in this case).

Outstanding sir! Loves me some chili Mac. That wolf chili is a sneaky product. Not too bad at all!

Just so you know... You're pushing me to Amazon for some CI mini skillets now! Thank you!

Nice Chili Mac! Looks great as usual!! I think you'll need a few more pans once everyone visits you for a meal.

Is that the first CI with macaroni that you did? I know you had a few dishes with tortillas...but since you used macaroni...have you tried a CI lasagna yet?

Chili Mac with a TON of cheese, heck yes!! I bet the brat slices were tasty in it too. I’ve had that Wolf chili before and for canned chili it’s pretty darn good. Good overall idea and cook Robert.

Love me some chili mac and cheese....

And using the CI pan makes it unique!

LIKE!

Thank you AZ, for the kind words and the like. No doubt, as you well know, i like doing things that are unique...sometimes to the point of being kinda weird :emoji_laughing:

Thanks guys. Appreciate it. Travis...if you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods I'll happily make a skillet for you to clean :emoji_wink: I bet we could sure swap some war stories!!

Very much appreciate it Zach, and you're correct as usual. That chili was surprisingly good. I grabbed 3 cans for hot dog chili and decided to dispatch one can for this meal.

What's taking so damned long?? :emoji_laughing: As creative as you are and as many amazing looking meals as you've done, I could see you having a ball with cast iron. If you happen to find a couple of 6" skillets, please order them for me or send me the link. I'd like to have a couple just a bit smaller than the 8" skillets I've been using for these meals.

Looks outstanding! Ill take one minus the giant pile of raw onions. Will def be trying this out soon. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks John. Ya just gotta have them onions though. Not the same without them. Honestly though it sounds like you and Bear should open up an onionless restaurant :emoji_laughing:

Oh I have quite a few. Those are just the ones I use most often. I could handle 25 to 30 people without a problem.

I think it's the first with macaroni but certainly not the first with pasta. I've done grilled spaghetti, lasagna, several other renditions of Italian food, and most recently a rigatoni with my spicy red sauce and Italian sausage. That was really good!!

Very much appreciate it Jeff. The brats were without doubt different but in a really good way. I was surprised at how well all the flavors melded. Agree about the canned chili too. I wouldn't serve it all by itself in a bowl for dinner but I bet I could make a killer plate of brisket nachos with it....and probably cook them in a CI skillet :emoji_astonished:

At first I was like wtf, but by the end of the post you totally had me. Looks great!

Thanks Adam. I had a feeling that this thread was gonna have that impact on some folks. Others have seen enough of my weird stuff that they just take it in stride :emoji_laughing:
