Old hot water tank converted to a rf smoker. Dave was right on my door, i thought over sized air inlet would be better, i was wrong.

now lets cook!!!!

You were spot on about the door Dave. I am running a 2.5" chimney and did the calculations for volume, I wonder would I benefit from swapping it out for a 3" chimney, oh guru of smoke.

Check the FB temperature.... It should be close the CC temp when running... Maybe 100 degrees higher if everything is drawing properly...

Adding a second air inlet, across from the FB/CC opening, will reduce the FB "overtemp" problem IF the stack is large enough to accommodate the air flow...

What was the recommended stack size from the calculation...

Recomended with the 2.5 is 47" and with a 3" it was 32". I couldn't run the 3" with the old style door (top load) due to interference, but with that welded shut I could do a transition box and install 3". Just don't know if I will benefit much, fire box temp is good and the unit is very easy to regulate temps.

I would stay with it.... If you felt like doing a test in a year or so, change it to the 3" x 32 and see just what the difference is...

Of course we would expect a thread describing the operational difference... Could help someone in the future...

Well I did a few cooks with the 2.5" chimny and I had a hard time getting thin blue smoke, it seemed like the cc was backed up with smoke, so, me being the can't let something not be right I swapped out the 2.5"@ 49" for a beefy 3" @ 38" and wow what a diffrrence. Worked awesome nice smoke all day, I did pulled pork on Saturday.

Nice smoker, a couple of comments, I would put a vent higher up on you FB door across from the CC / FB opening  it will really help.  Also not trying to upset the apple cary git I would go with a 3.5 to 4 inch stack   You will be happier in the long run
