Chip tray upgrade again a little confused.

I just assembled my new DMES 30 tonight,  model 20072912. I just bought it on black friday at Bass Pro for $199. It looks like the newest version with the glass window and drip tray on the outside bottom front. I noticed the chip tray has a plate tack welded on it to make 3/4 of it unuseable and so does the chip loader. I could easily grind those plates off, but i'm wondering if Masterbuilt is still offering a larger chip tray upgrade. I alreay bought the AMNPS but wondering if I can still get a kit or if this is the new improved version that seems worse?

A larger chip tray just makes you add more chips.. You won't need it.... too much smoke, from too many chips, causes acrid, creosote flavor in you finished product.... When smoking meats etc.... less is often best....
