Chili night came and went. The cast iron skillet cornbread with honey butter was done just right, and the rhubarb pie was perfect! The smoked brisket chili is something special. The post-dinner bourbon was pretty good too.

The gathering was to support a friend whose wife has been diagnosed with ALS and is declining fast. We surrounded him with great food and old friends. By the time the food was plated, he started to sound much better. We worked on a wheelchair elevator today and in spite of what he is going through, he sounded stronger and a lot more positive. I call the evening a success.

I need to say thank you to everyone here that has helped me learn the techniques to put on dinners like this and share good food with friends. Sometimes a meal can make a big difference.

I tip my hat to you.
You cannot help medically, but the mental support was and is outstanding.
I'll take your word the rhubarb pie was a success. I cannot stomach that flavor.

Your comment on wheelchair elevator makes me think back to a country church in NW MN. They were one of the first to have a lift and it was designed and built by the Pastor of the church.

A good friend you are! Food looks marvelous. I'm down to two quarts of my chili in the freezer. Time to make a bunch soon

Sounds like a win all around. I can't go straight rhubarb, gotta be strawberry in the mix.
