A church near us does something similar every year as a fund raiser for their missions and we always buy meals. They always sell out and that's about 1000 plates. Really good food...

When I was a kid (teens-early 20s) I spent a lot of time at the beach. On the way there and back, it seemed like every firehouse in every little town would have a chicken bbq. The smell was AMAZING. Trouble is, on the way TO the beach, I was always in a hurry to get there so never stopped. On the way FROM the beach, I never had any money left so couldn't stop. Finally after years of torture, I stopped and got some chicken. It did not disappoint.

Our volly FD around here are too lazy to do that. They just send out huge mailings and collect the checks. Some of the depts around here have huge bars and bowling alleys in them. They have much better and more equipment and trucks than the FDNY.
