Another Amazon Prime Day thing I thought I would try out. It is a new cheap pair of wireless meat probes. Less that $40 for the pair with a base station.

This is just the setup, the review will come later. The product.

The base station charges the wireless probes with a USB-C and will also forward to WiFi and 5G to your phone. It has a battery so does not need to be charged all the time.

So far so good, it charged them up very fast.

The phone app on Android is RoastTrack. It was a little clunky at first. I joined it to my Wifi multiple times before I gave up and reset it. That fixed it and it has worked since. I did not read the directions like many and it might have said to do this.

It seems to be working now but I will have to wait until I use them to see how well they work.

The app. GB12 is the base station.

So far it works really well. I tested it against my instant read thermometer and it was always within a degree of it.

It is nice that it shows the ambient temperature as well as the meat temp. This shows every time you opened up to lid.

There is another view if you choose.

You know the saying... "Cheaps Not Good and Goods Not Cheap" ... Just saying ...

UH! search wireless thermometer here and see how many cost 5X as much and just die shortly after being bought. If this dies I am not out that much $. If it lasts ... bargain.

I used them again on a brisket and brisket bacon sausages.

The sausages took about 4 hours and the battery in white probe was still at 100%.

The brisket took over 8 hours and the battery on black probe was 100% within a couple of minutes after setting back into the base station.

After two cooks the base station is almost fully charged.

So far this is a win.

True, but use one on a $140-160 full prime packer being smoked overnight and have it fail to warn you the flame went out. You could be out more than just the cost of the cheap probe! JMTC 🧐

What is the difference if a $200 probe dies on you during your overnight smoke? Will you feel better that you spent more money for the same result?

My original buy was because so many of the $200 wireless probes were failing so I hesitated to buy one. I thought I would take a chance at this cheaper version that seems to be well built and so far it has been successful. If you spent more to feel superior good for you. If it lasts even better for you.

I am reviewing a cheaper alternate that so far is passing the tests. Good or bad I will keep posting the results. So far I have had great results.

Hey Chris, glad to hear it's working as expected. Was only pointing out the other side of the equation in that the cheaper models I've purchased in the past have had their issues but certainly was not suggesting any superiority to be had based upon price. There are therm probe options at many price levels on the market and frankly any of them can fail regardless of brand or pricing structure. In my case, I finally landed on Thermoworks. Hopefully yours is a solid keeper for others to definitely consider.
