Chargriller Pro....remove the charoal grate?

This seems like a pretty basic question, but I'll be darned if I could find it in past posts. I'm thinking about cooking this weekend without the stock charcoal grate in the smoking chamber of my chargriller pro. I've got an average sized boston butt, 3 lbs of chicken breast (stupid diet!) and a dutch oven full of beans.

I'm thinking that without the grate, I can put the beans under the pork (after he's cooked for a bit). Is this a good idea? Not even sure it will fit, but thought I'd check to see if anyone else has tried it.

I have mine in the smoker side flipped upside down... it helps even the heat out all the way across... the arch almost perfectly matches the hole to the firebox ... and i put an empty beer cans on each side to hold my drip pans level.... the ones that came in the fire box have never been used... put a couple pieces of angle in there and expanded metal on top... now can clean out the ashes without disturbing the fire or coals.....

Not sure if it will fit.
It does sound lile a good idea though. I have tinkered with the CG much yet.
I took out the charcoal grates in my Silver smoker though. Just got them laying around.

By the way, I didn't remove the grate this weekend. I just lowered it all the way to the bottom of the chamber, and the dutch oven slid right under the upper grate. Worked very well and collected nice juices from the butt.
