Nah, the plank is just the dish or pot that it is cooked and served on. I have had it like that a few times, but I got to tell ya, if I am at a restraunte that serves fish on a shingle, I would bet that there is something better on the menu, like prime rib!
 
When I was in the Navy we were served "stuff" (not fish) "on a shingle". Actually wasn't bad either.
