Making some shepards pie in on the grill with cast iron skillet ,,

Got a new one at Sams club a few weeks ago

1 lb lean ground beef

1 med onion chopped

4 cups frozen mixed veggies

1 cup gravy

4 oz of phillie cream cheese

2 cloves minced garlic

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

here is where wife comes in

1 batch of mashed potatoes made with 6 potatoes made with butter, salt and pepper 1 stick of butter, milk, also with the garlic and cream cheese ... this may be more than needed, but will eat on the side..

brown ground beef with little salt and pepper, and onion  drain , and return to skillet, add veggies and gravy, saute, stirring some, when bubbly, add mashed potatoes, return to grill for like 20 minutes at 375 indirect heat , then add cheese to top and go for 10 more minutes or until it looks the way you like it ...

well, thats the plan anyways

here is a look at it all

wife will make the mashed potatoes, but, we will make it all on the char griller ...

off to a good start

will grill right over coals for now, then grill indirect

starting to brown up ...

wife running potatoes threw the ricer

now potatoes in the blend state

gravied up, and bubbling

potatoes and cheese .. getting closer

all done, letting it rest

was pretty darn good ...

Well, finished this all up for lunch today, was fun doing it all on the grill, think next time, I will smoke some burgers, then dice em up with onions, even throw in a little smoked chicken or pork, whatever I have at the time ,, this would be a smoked version of it all.. this recipe is like a 10 - 15 year old recipe from Kraft that we make alot .. but she makes it in the oven ...

Neat.. I have some old cookbook for Kraft and Campbell etc..
I have a bunch of sauce leftover from my pork steaks I made Sat. so I'm gonna smoke some old pork loin trimmings to toss in there right now I guess. lol I forgot I had the scraps from a couple pork loins in the freezer..

My cookbook.

will be time for chili and other stuff as cooler weather comes
when I was a kid, my uncle would make a stew and then make biscuits on the lid ... when he would use in a charcoal grill
