So my dad not knowingly sent me a giant bag of mesquite wood pellets from Cabella's . I have googled and searched the forum but did not find much on the subject . Is it a good idea or bad idea to give it a try on my WSM  and what are the pro's and con's . Thank you for taking the time to help a greenhorn out .

If you out them in a can and popped small holes in the can you might be able to get them to smolder enough to smoke but not burn. Tinfoil pouch might work too. I prefer to use (3-4) 2"-3" chunks of smoke wood on top of the briquettes or lump.

Get yourself a amnts and use that to cold smoke in your WSM using the pellets...

Although I can't think of anything I'd want to cold smoke with mesquite pellets!
