Is it possible or does it burn too fast? I'm using a vertical smoker and I thought maybe if I wrapped the sawdust in tinfoil or used a gastro tray on top of the coals that might work?

Or am I better of just buying wood chips from somewhere?

I have a Masterbuilt analog electric and I've found it works best with dry saw dust. Not knowing your heat source, at most you may have to dampen the dust but it should be fine for hot smoking no matter what the fuel.

Ahhh, I forgot to say, I'm using charcoal

Hello.  The foil or the tray will work fine.  Chips, sawdust, splits, chunks, it all works.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

So I've got my sawdust:

That's a 1kg bag, as you can see it's very fine. I was thinking maybe make up 2 or 3 100g foil pouches and just chuck them on as and when I need them?
