Recently I figured out that my love for menudo comes from my mom feeding us Campbells pepper pot.
I crave that stuff and would love to find a recipe that replicates the Campbell version.
I've been surfing the innerwebs and while there's lots of interesting info on where it comes from and how to make different versions, the recipes promising to replicate the Campbells item don't read like they will get it done.
So any help out there for my addiction, now gone unfulfilled for way too long?

I remember it also.

Funny how these companies discontinue such popular products.

I saw a poster or maybe it was a metal sign that had a giant pepper pot Campbells can on it.
Really got me goiing.
A few years ago I tried to find the real stuff but somebody ate the last can of it and failed to invite me.

Never had the Campbell's version. Like Jason, I haven't made it in about 30 years. Might be time to remedy that. I used the recipe from Jeff Smith's Frugal Gourmet cookbook.

Weird coincidence, I was reading just this morning about Campbell's discontinuing many of their soup lines. I had no idea. The article this morning was talking about their Scotch Broth. Dang, I used to love that stuff.

I had to research it also...interesting soup.
What is Campbell’s Pepper Pot Soup?

Campbell’s pepper pot soup was a hearty stew-like soup that included beef tripe, potatoes, and carrots as its base. The difference between it and a normal-style stew is that the soup adds spice to the dish by adding jalapenos and red pepper flakes. This canned soup was a hit for those who loved stew with a kick.

The soup was initially made in 1899 but was later discontinued in 2010. This was because it did not fit modern time recipes and was one of the least popular soups. However, this didn’t stop many who loved this soup from wanting the recipe!

Do you remember which of his cookbooks has the pepper pot recpie?
The Frugal Gourmet books are a series and I can't seem to find which one has pepper pot.

I think it may have been in his "Frugal Gourmet Cooks American" book. I just moved, and that one might not have made the transition, I'm afraid.

Looks like he published a ton of books all of which are called The frugal gourmet in the title followed by the different types and locations of the food.
Not and easy internet search it seems as they are all in the past and now the hard copys are spendy.

The term pepperpot covers recipes from multiple countries/regions and has multiple variations, I've bookmarked a bunch and am thinking about trying different ones, but for now I'm trying to duplicate the Campbells version.
I guess I'm yearning to go back to the middle 1950's with my mom delivering steaming bowls of soup to the table..
I know, my parents were cheapskates and fed their brood cheap canned soup!

I wonder if that's the last version before they killed it off?
I remember tripe in the 50's/60's version, no?

I've had pepper pot soup, but don't ever recall having the Campbell's version.

That is so true about regional influence.
The pepper pot I've had did not have tripe.
The last I looked at tripe in the store it was more expensive than a nice piece of beef shank (my favorite for soup).
Good luck on your quest.

Most folks are not into tripe but prepared correctly it's good eats.
If not prepared correctly it's almost impossible to eat.
I'm going to see if I can get a can of that Rose brand canned tripe and if it;s properly cooked, which is to say very tender, I'll use that first.
If it's not tender then I'll use pork neck , which is perhaps the best eating meat on the entire pig.
