I am new to the stick burning arena. I have been reading everything I could about fruit wood flavors, size of splits, combinations of wood and charcoal. I have seen several mentions of starting with camp fire wood for a coal bed, etc. What is considered camp fire wood?

I can't imagine it being what I call campfire wood.  I'd think it would still have to be a hardwood like some oak.

We camp quite a bit. The campfire wood we get from the state parks here in Fl is usually oak or pine. If it's oak you can burn it down to coals and cook right over it, If it's pine you need to burn it down to coals then put your cooking wood over it. Pine has a lot of sap and burns very sooty and will give your cook a bitter taste. Hope this helps. Happy smokin', David.
