A new Sportsman's Warehouse opened in my neighborhood. I was wandering around today and found some Camp Chef Charwood pellets, Hickory or Cherry. $12.50 for a 20 pound bag. Not too bad of a price.

Anyone have any experience with them? I figure for that price, I won't feel too bad dumping them in the mulch with the rest of the crappy pellets I have tried over the last year.

I've tried the char-hickory and like it but at time i could not get enough smoke flavor (hickory) so i mixed the remainder with some apple and another blend of more hickory and char-hickory
it burned a little hotter than just plain apple and plain hickory but last longer i got 24 hours on three separate cooks

If you have a problem with your grill getting hot enough then char pellets might help. As far as flavor, everyone that I've heard from about them says the char adds nothing, and is messier as well. If you need the heat, try them, otherwise I'd stay away. As far as CampChefs other pellets, they are about the same as any other blended wood pellet.

I tried a couple of other brands before I discovered Lumber Jack pellets. I see no reason what so ever to try any other brand than Lumber Jack. I prefer the Competition Blend (MHC), but the two flavors you mentioned are probably good choices as well. I think the CharHickory would be better for red meats and the CharCherry might be a better choice for poultry or fish. The $12.50/20lbs is a decent price. I was lucky and found a home dealer locally selling them for $10.
